Rent
Act 1977 Tenancies
What is a Rent
Act 1977 Tenancy?
The act kept
the high level of protection for tenants which made such tenants
ubnatrtractive to landlords. An attempt was made to create more
attractive tenancies for landlords in the Housing Act 1980, however
these had many undesirable qualities from a landlords viewpoint.
Once tenancies
had been created under the rent act 1977 it was hard for landlords
to regain possession. Indeed there were succession rights so that
tenancies could pass to surviving family members.
As well as continuing
for an unlimited time, rents were controlled on such tenancies.
Rents are classes as fair rents and these are generally well below
the market rents for Housing At Tenancies. Rents can only be raided
every two years after applying to the rent officer.
